SOUTH AUSSIES AND FORDS GO TOGETHER

Round four of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championship at Mallala Motorsport Park in South Australia will be home turf for many of the front runners after escapades in New South Wales and Tasmania.

Two times and defending series champion Bruce Heinrich is just a handful of points off the lead of West Australia’s Clint Harvey and will be anxious to bridge that gap even further this weekend.

In a series that pits six cylinder Ford Falcons against Holden Commodores, both are in the new to the series, AU Fords. Of the nine races contested so far over three rounds, the Falcons have won seven. The only Holdens to topple the blue oval this year have been the older model VN’s of local John Goodacre and WA’s Paul Fiore.

Initially the racing category was conceived to embrace competition between the VN and Ford Falcon EA models, but the beginning of 2005 seen the introduction of AU’s and Commodore VT’s running the same mechanicals.

The AU Fords have dominated the results with Queenslander Kris Walton notching a win and several podium positions while NSW’s Peter Dane is already in the top ten after only contesting one round.

Older EA model stalwarts South Aussies Matt Lovell and Steve Kwiatkowski will be anxious to update after solid top ten performances while Queenslander Jake Camilleri already has – but he has switched brands – to a VT Commodore!

So far the leading VT light has been Shawn Jamieson who nearly cracked a top three at Oran Park and has regularly finished in the top half dozen or so.

Round four of the Supaloc Australian Saloon Car Championship officially kicks off with two 20-minute qualifying sessions at 10:00 am and 1:15 pm on Saturday June 24. Following on Sunday June 25, there is three 14 laps at 9:00 am, 11:30 am and 1:40 pm.
