Thursday, 20 November 2008
One of the most respected and established motorsports engineering businesses in the world will celebrate its history in the sport at Autosport International in January, as Northampton-based engine constructors Cosworth commemorate 50 years in the business.

To mark the occasion, Cosworth is moving across from the trade exhibition to display to the general public at Europe’s largest motorsport show for the very first time. “Amongst the products at Autosport International will be the firm’s new supercharger conversion for the Mazda MX5,” said company spokesperson Yusuf Islam. “This product recently won the Global Media Award at the SEMA automotive show in Las Vegas.”

Cosworth are celebrating five decades of engine manufacture this year, half a century after the first engine, a Formula Junior power unit, was developed. In between, Cosworth engines have won 196 F1 Grand Prix, the famous Cosworth DFV scoring 155 of these wins over a 24-year lifespan. The DFV became the the most successful engine in F1 history, winning titles with the likes of Jackie Stewart, James Hunt and Mario Andretti.

Cosworth have also won countless World Rally, British Touring Car and Indy Car victories, as well as developing technology for road cars manufacturers such as Ford and Mercedes, culminating in the infamous Ford Escort Cosworth and Mercedes 190E 2.3-16.

“Few engine technology businesses have a reputation as strong as Cosworth,” said Haymarket Exhibitions Show Director Ian France. “The DFV and BDA engines are names revered by motorsport enthusiasts as some of the best designs in the world. We are pleased to count such an iconic brand as Cosworth amongst our exhibitors.”
