RECORD ENTRY FOR FORMULA RENAULT BARC CHAMPIONSHIP
A record entry of 29 will contest rounds five and six of the Formula Renault BARC Championship at Snetterton circuit on Sunday, 25th June. The field of 20 FR2000 Class cars and nine Club Class cars is the largest seen in the low-cost single-seater series since its inception in 1988.
An initial entry of 24 drivers was boosted by the late addition of Russell Racing duo Matt Shawyer (Wheathampstead, Herts) and Andrew Bentley (Co Durham), Welch Motorsport pair Chris Murray (Salisbury, Wilts) and James Green (Torquay, Devon) and double Club Class race winner Andrew Webb (Solihull, W Mids).
Doncaster-based Russell Racing’s entry means four teams from the Formula Renault UK Championship are also involved in the highly competitive feeder series. Coles Racing, Falcon Motorsport and Mark Burdett Motorsport, which has five drivers in Formula Renault BARC, are also contesting both Championships.
One of the main benefits for teams is the use of identical carbon-fibre Formula Renault 2.0 cars in both Formula Renault BARC FR2000 Class and the Formula Renault UK Championship, which supports the British Touring Car Championship. This unique format allows the best young single-seater racers in the country to prepare for racing at a higher level.
