KNOCKHILL DISAPPOINTMENT FOR METCALFE

Attachment 16571
Erstwhile Formula Renault UK Championship leader Jeremy Metcalfe returned home to Hampshire this evening happy to see the back of Knockhill after a bitterly disappointing weekend at the Scottish venue.

The 18-year-old AKA Lemac ace, who now faces the pressure of sitting two vital A-level exams tomorrow, is looking ahead to renewing his title challenge during the next two rounds of the season at Croft Circuit next month after enduring his most difficult races of the season at a very wet Knockhill earlier today.

Having had no time to prepare ahead of the weekend, Jeremy was forced to miss Friday’s pre-event test session due to yet more A-level exams, the missed track time proved to be crucial in qualifying.

Lining up in an uncharacteristic 14th position on the grid for round seven of the season, Jeremy made a good getaway initially but on lap five he suffered a heavy impact into the tyre wall after being taken out of contention by French driver Franck Mailleux.

With a great deal of damage to his front and rear suspension, the AKA mechanics did a good job to repair the Fleet teenager’s BillChaser-backed car in time for round eight and with rain falling as heavy as it had all weekend prior to the start of the race, there was no doubt at all every driver would be electing to use wet weather tyres.

When the race finally got underway in driving rain, Jeremy made good inroads early on and climbed from 15th on the grid to an eventual 10th position. Another big accident though, this time involving AKA team-mate Peter Rees and Swedish driver Daniel Roos, resulted in the red flags being shown and a race result declared after just seven laps.
