ONSLOW-COLE CLAIMS DOUBLE POLE AT KNOCKHILL

Tom Onslow-Cole (New Malden, Surrey) installed himself as the favourite for rounds seven and eight of the ELF Renault Clio Cup after claiming pole position for both races at Knockhill. The Total Control Racing star set a best time of 57.258s (81.64mph) to beat JHR Racing Developments’ Steven Hunter (Coal Aston, Dronfield) by 0.326s. Boulevard Team Racing’s Paul Rivett (Banstead, Surrey) is third, just 0.011s further adrift.

Using the format of one 20-minute qualifying session to set the grid for both races, each driver’s second-fastest time of the session determines their grid placing for the meeting’s second race. Onslow-Cole’s consistency saw him lap in 57.377s (81.48mph) to claim his second pole position of the day ahead of Rivett and Philip House, repeating the feat he achieved in rounds one and two of heading the field for both races.

PH Motorsport’s Philip House enjoyed a strong qualifying on the undulating 1.30-mile Scottish circuit and will start fourth and third respectively in Sunday’s two races. JHR Racing Developments’ Scottish driver Michael Doyle (Gartocharn, West Dunbartonshire) and TCR’s Nick Adcock (Bromyard, Hereford) occupy the third row for each race.

Mardi Gras Motorsport duo Stephen Colbert (Northampton) and Robert Lawson (Richmond, N Yorks) and Team Pyro’s Mark Hunt (Broughton Astley, Leics) all lapped within one second of Onslow-Cole’s pole position time.

TCR duo Mark Speller (Hertford) and James Williams (Norwich) will start 10th and 13th in round seven but both had their sessions curtailed by accidents. On his return to Clio Cup action, TCR’s Ray MacDowall (Carlisle) edged ahead of Boulevard Team Racing’s Martin Johnson (Alford, Lincs) while a late charge saw Team Pyro’s Mel Healey (Cheam, Surrey) move ahead of Robertshaw Racing’s Alan Taylor (Whitley Bay).
