FORTEC PAIR LEAD THE WAY IN KNOCKHILL QUALIFYING
Fortec Motorsport’s Sebastian Hohenthal (Northampton) and Sam Bird (Claygate, Surrey) will start from pole position in rounds seven and eight respectively of the Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship at Knockhill on Sunday, 18th June. Hohenthal set the fastest lap of the day at 48.177s (97.03mph) in Saturday’s first 20-minute session with Bird lapping in 48.345s (96.70mph) during the afternoon session.
On a drying track in first qualifying, the Daventry-based team secured the top three grid slots with Hohenthal leading James Sutton (New Barnet, Herts) and Bird, with the trio covered by just 0.346s. Manor Motorsport’s Cheng Cong Fu (Oxford) continued his good form shown in Friday’s free practise to claim fourth ahead of Coles Racing’s Josh Fisher (Bridgwater).
Championship leader Patrick Hogan (Killiney, Co Dublin) will start eighth with his AKA Lemac team-mate Jeremy Metcalfe, currently lying second in the drivers’ standings, down in 14th having missed Friday’s free practise due to a clash with an A-Level exam. Nexa Racing’s B4 Group Graduate Cup contender Daniel Roos (Thetford) is ninth, just one place ahead of his fellow Graduate Cup driver, Fortec Motorsport’s Fabio Onidi (Northampton).
Second qualifying saw Fortec Motorsport once again placing three cars in the top five with Bird on pole, Hohenthal in third and Onidi in fifth. Cheng will line up on the front row just 0.018s behind Bird, while Hogan re-discovered the form that brought him two victories at Thruxton in the previous two rounds to qualify fourth.
Position 1 Racing’s Richard Keen (Amersham, Bucks) improved from 18th in first qualifying to secure sixth spot for round eight at the undulating 1.30-mile Scottish circuit, while Scorpio Motorsport’s David Epton (Fleet, Hants) and Will Bratt (Banbury, Oxon) will start eighth and ninth.
