Triple Eight Performance Vehicles launches 888 ASTRA VXR SPRINT R
Following the announcement of the imminent launch of the BARC/Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup, Triple Eight Performance Vehicles, the fast road cars preparation arm of Triple Eight Race Engineering, has just announced the release of its 888 ASTRA VXR SPRINT R.
The car has been designed with the Cup regulations in mind and will boast serious upgrades to make it one of the main Cup contenders:- 888 Racing weight saving programme (minus 200kg)
- 888 Racing shell with fully integrated roll cage
- 888 Racing designed front and rear Racing dampers and springs
- 888 Racing brake pads
- 888 Racing seat and 6 point harness
- 888 Racing exhaust system
- 240 wild horses with 325 Nm of torque from 2400 to 5000RPM, through a 888 Racing clutch and 6 speed gearbox.
"When Dunlop and the BARC contacted us with the idea of creating a championship for race prepared production cars running on road tyres, we decided straight away that we had to get involved," said Ian Harrison MD Triple Eight Performance Vehicles. "This will be the perfect showcase for Triple Eight Performance Vehicles to demonstrate our skills and abilities at turning everyday cars into fast and reliable race machines."
"Dunlop are delighted that 888 have shown this commitment to the planned inaugural BARC Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup," said James Bailey of Dunlop. " We aim to develop a championship that acts as a feeder series to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship. The Cup allows club racers to move up the ladder whilst catering for independent professional teams and manufacturer supported dealer teams. Our aim is to have a diverse mix of cars, combining contemporary hot hatches such as the Astra VXR Sprint R, with sports coupes, smaller hot hatchbacks and high performance saloons. Having a professionally developed turn-key race car available for the series is a real step forward in planning this 2007 series."
