Mondello Park welcomes return of Sportscars and Formula 3 Stars
The British GT and Formula 3 Championships make a welcome return to Mondello Park on June 24th & 25th for the Co. Kildare track's final International race meeting of the season, with the usual mix of Supercars and star drivers competing over two races for each class.
The GT championship is contested by some of the most famous names in motoring with racing versions of their latest road going Supercars. Historic names such Ferrari, Porsche, Lotus and Morgan are joined by the recent additions to the Supercar ranks such as Panoz, Holden and Mosler. The GT drivers include Portadown's Tim Mullen, Donegal's Damien Faulkner and Corkman Matt Griffin and a host of famous names from the world of Sportscar racing.
Formula 3 is the breeding ground for future Formula One stars and the British series is the most important F3 series in the world. Famous names such as Senna, Hill, Mansell, Hakkinen, Button, Herbert and many more first demonstrated their Grand Prix credentials in the British F3 Championship and this season another crop of future stars are hoping to make their mark. The Senna name returns to the series with Ayrton's nephew Bruno currently one of the front runners alongside championship leader Michael Conway.
The GT competition will consist of two championship rounds with each being a one hour, two driver race. Race one takes place on Saturday afternoon with the second race on Sunday. Sandwiching GT race two will be two rounds of the Formula 3 championship with each being 30 mins in duration. The supporting races will all be for domestic championships with the resurgent FF1600 single seater series likely to be the highlight.
Qualifying for the GT's, F3 and domestic championships takes place on Saturday with a full cast of supporting races culminating in the first GT race. Sunday's programme sees more qualifying for the Irish classes followed by a full race programme from 10:30.
