Patrizi thrills crowds at Intel London Grand Prix street demonstration in Formula BMW
Young Australian racing driver Michael Patrizi has enthralled crowds in a street display in London’s famous Hyde Park, driving a Formula BMW racing car in the high-profile event.
Labelled the Intel London Grand Prix, the event showcased an array of machinery from prestige car manufacturer BMW in the heart of London. A 400-metre circuit was set-up through London’s Kensington Gardens, where BMW.Sauber F1 driver and 1997 Formula 1 world champion Jacques Villeneuve drove a BMW.Sauber C23B machine in front of an enormous crowd of spectators.
Patrizi piloted an original Formula BMW car around the temporary circuit, exciting onlookers by showcasing some of the capabilities of the nimble racing machine.
Patrizi’s participation in the event represented the growing Formula BMW category, which boasts four championships around the world and is now the clear stepping stone in world motorsport from karting to car racing.
The West Australian is this year racing in the Formula BMW UK Championship in a fully-funded deal from BMW Motorsport after finishing as the top rookie and second outright in last year’s Formula BMW Asia Championship. Patrizi currently lies seventh in the highly-competitive Formula BMW UK Championship with 10 of the 20 rounds completed.
