Evangelou maintains Top 10 place
DEXION Racing’s Tony Evangelou has maintained his position towards the front of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series after the second round at Wakefield Park.
Evangelou currently sits in eighth position in the series after an up and down weekend. The Victorian driver finished 20th overall for the round, but it could have been much better, if not for a final race clash while with perennial back-marker Barry Tanton.
The Dexion Racing team battled with set-up problems through practice and qualifying, which saw him start Race 1 from a lowly 20th. As the weekend went on, though, the car got better and better. Evangelou was finished 17th in the first race, and then scored a great third place in the reverse grid race. In the all-important final, Evangelou was comfortably inside the top 10 until the lapped Tanton crashed into the front of Evangelou’s ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon at the final turn. The incident broke the steering rack of the Dexion Ford and put it out of the race.
