LEGENDS AND PICK UPS TOP THE BILL AT CROFT
The first of the British Automobile Racing Club’s two visits to Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire in 2006 takes place this forthcoming weekend (June 3rd/4th) with another top quality National car race meeting in the offing.
No less than eighteen races will be contested around the North’s premier race track over the two day meeting which comprises rounds of a number of national as well as local championships.
The Pickup Truck Championship returns to Croft for the first time since September 2000 and of the current crop of drivers, only long serving pilots Gavin Seager, Dave Briggs, Phil White and local ace, Michael Smith from Hartlepool, have raced at Croft in Pickups before.
As this is the first visit of the championship since the Trucks switched to left hand drive in 2003 a new lap record is up for grabs although the teams will have Lee Caroline’s 1999 benchmark of 1m 33.32 (81.78mph) as their target over the course of the weekend.
Sharing centre stage are the ever-popular Legends cars whereby the bike-engined 5/8 scale racers, based on pre-war Ford and Chevy bodies, always provide plenty of action. Hexham’s Chris Grieve will be hoping to consolidate his championship lead on home soil following victory at Anglesey in the previous round.
In addition to the opening heats for the Legends on Saturday, the ever popular DDMC Northern Sports and Saloon Car Championship will see packed grids for their two races incorporating the six popular classes, along with the opening races for the Lancaster Insurance MG Owners Club classes and the Matador Powertec Radical Challenge.
Sunday’s action will include another nine races for all classes as well as the two races for the entertaining and forceful Pickups.
Practice gets underway at 09.30 on Saturday with the first of nine races scheduled to start at 12.15 with Sunday’s nine race programme at 12.00. Adult admission is just
