Hi-tech Win Falls One Corner Short PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 21 October 2006
Hi-Tech Motorsports were just one corner away from a win in race two of the seventh round of the Yokohama V8 Ute Racing series on the Queensland Gold Coast yesterday.

Scott Jennings in the Legrand Ford Falcon XR8 had done the hard work in seeing off the challenge of Darren Palmer for the lead, but made a minor indiscretion at the final corner allowed Marcus Zukanovic to slip past and relegate the New South Welshman to second place.

Next best of the Hi-Tech Motorsports outfit of five cars was the Fuchs/Ocean Beach Hotels Ford Falcon XR8 of Kerry Wade who followed the trail blazing race winner through for a solid fourth.

“It was a relative uneventful run for us, apart from a brush with James Brock’s Commodore,” said the West Aussie who ended up with the fastest lap and the quickest sector splits.

Grant Johnson was prominent early in the race but his Grove Juices Holden Commodore was no match for the Fords in a straight line as he fell to seventh and was the best placed Holden in the field.

“As the track rubbered up, I felt the Fords were coming back to me in the later part of the race . . . so hopefully race three could be very interesting,” Johnson enthused.

Matthew Moorhead finished 16th in the Romanza Properties/DEL Lawyers Ford Falcon XR8 and was plagued with brake dramas as Greg Willis, aboard the Grove Juices Ford Falcon XR8 picked up three places while continuing to learn the craft of driving V8 Utes.
