CHAMP KEEPS WINNING RUN INTACT
Five times champion and reigning Kerrick Australian Sports Sedan series winner Tony Ricciardello maintains an unbeaten run in his quest for a sixth title, following a close win in race one of round two at Phillip Island.
Driving the most recognizable Sports Sedan in Australia, the Chev 6-litre powered Alfa Romeo out of West Australia, Ricciardello was pushed all the way by 2004 champ Darren Hossack in a Saab/Chev. However while Hossack closed in the tighter parts of the famous Phillip Island circuit, he couldn’t match the straight line pace of his rival.
Third was the second of the Saab/Chevs in the hands of Dean Randle who claimed the spot after a brilliant move on Daniel Tamasi and Des Wall at Honda on the opening lap. He slipped under Tamasi as he was pushing his way past Wall.
The latter suffered worse as he was shoved off the circuit, regathering his Chev Corvette to chase Tamasi’s Holden Calibra/Chev for the remainder of the race.
Next was the Ford Mustang of Phil Crompton who battled early with the Nissan 300ZX/Chev of Kerry Baily before eventually gaining the upper hand.
Glen Hastings completed the finishers in his Ford Cortina V8 while Honda Prelude/Chev of Dean Camm failed to finish. The similar car of Charlie Senese had injector problems in qualifying and did not start.
Race two is scheduled for tomorrow eight circuits and that will be followed by a ten lapper to complete round two of the Kerrick Australian Sports Sedan Series.
