Shell Optimax F1 Drivers' Challenge
Budding racing driver Adrian Hull next week takes part in the outdoor karting round of the Shell Optimax F1 Drivers’ Challenge, the annual event that gives the man in the street the opportunity to become a racing driver and to test in an F1 racecar. Adrian has already won through to this round by beating almost 2000 original applicants through an indoor karting stage, and another 400 people through a gruelling assault course aimed at testing fitness. At each round the competition gets more difficult and the level of equipment that the competitors get tested in gets more complex. If Adrian manages to win through the karting round he will be severely tested by judges in saloon cars, race saloons and then a series of very quick single seaters. The final three drivers will be taken to Germany where they will take part in an F1 test before the winning driver is selected and given his or her first race in August. “I’ve wanted to get into motor sport for a long time. I first had a go at karting when I was 8 and since then I’ve been trying hard to progress in the sport, the only problem is the huge costs that go with it,” said Adrian. “The Shell Optimax F1 Drivers’ Challenge is a brilliant opportunity for me, a helping hand up the ladder to the top levels of motorsport. Looking ahead five years I could well be making a profession of racing cars. It’s a dream situation and I’m going to do everything I can to achieve it. I’d like to thank the event sponsor Shell Optimax and all of my supporters. There’s still a long way to go but I’m focused 100% on getting there.”
